Today on A Study In The Word, Evangelist Jimmy Swaggart and panel welcome guest Evangelist Adam Fulghum reading Romans 7:23 the panel teaches on the unfortunate law of willpower in the life of a believer. There is a desire in every believer to overcome sin, and willpower is often the most likely “go to” when trying to overcome sin in our lives. This is a misunderstanding of how faith in the finished work of Christ works. When we place our faith in Christ, the Holy Spirit is the one to work on our behalf to transform us into the image of Christ. This is how the sin nature is to remain dormant in our lives. When we try to address acts of sin with our own willpower, we hinder what the power of God can do in our lives; the sin nature can rise again, leaving the believer in a fight. All have sinned and all come short of the glory of God, but in Christ, our salvation is secure; we are justified, and sanctified and the Father is just and faithful to forgive our sins when we ask.
