Today on A Study In The Word, Evangelist Jimmy Swaggart and panel read Romans 7:8, discussing the sin nature taking occasion by the commandment, which Paul said wrought in him all manner of concupiscence. Concupiscence is evil desire, meaning that if the believer attempts to live for God by means other than the Cross, he will be ruled by evil desires. If the believer tries to address sin by law or works, or covets, or lusts after something then Paul says every manner of evil concupiscence will result. Brother Swaggart says this is one of the biggest hurdles that the child of God has to put aside; if he or she tries to work out their own righteousness other than by faith in Christ, this gives the sin nature a base of operation to reign again in a born again believer.
