Justification is a legal declaration of God. Today on A Study In The Word, Evangelist Jimmy Swaggart and panel discuss how our salvation is a legal work, a contract made with God. God declares us innocent of all charges based solely upon our faith in Christ. Okay. He declares the unrighteous to be righteous because of Jesus' atoning work. One may ask, can a person lose their justification? The answer is yes; for we are not justified by works, we’re justified by faith, therefore we can’t lose our justification by wrong works, but we can only lose justification by the loss of our faith or our failure to continue to believe. If a person sins, they don’t lose their justification; if that were so, there would be no one in right relationship with God. We all are falling short of the glory of God, as sin affects the foundation and the fabric of our faith. Sin is a faith wrecker; and one of the hardest things to do is to believe that God would look at us the same way even when we fail. But when we repent, He still thinks of us as worthy to be forgiven.
