Today on A Study In The Word, Evangelist Jimmy Swaggart and panel discuss how Daniel was ignored by Belshazzar even though he was in the kingdom, just a few rooms away from the king. Now, acknowledging Daniel and lifting him up, they are having a great, lavish feast. Belshazzar had been king for some time, a co-ruler; and now, all of a sudden he’s calling this great feast, bringing out these golden vessels which were once in the temple. His grandfather, Nebuchadnezzar, had stolen these vessels, which had sat for years. Why now would he have this great lavish feast? Brother Swaggart asks, what were they celebrating? Maybe, they were showing God who they were. All this celebrating, and just hours later, there is the crumbling defeat of Babylon. The timing of the celebration was meant as an affront to Jehovah, thinking that there’s no way that the prophecies in scripture could be right; in essence, claiming to be victorious seventy years later. But in an instance, the celebrating stops, and the Lord destroys Babylon.
