Today on A Study In The Word, Evangelist Jimmy Swaggart and panel discuss Romans 2:4. Or despise you the riches of His goodness and forbearance and long-suffering, not knowing that the goodness of God leads you to repentance. Paul starts out this chapter portraying how good God is. Satan wants people to believe that God is a stern taskmaster. The very opposite of that is true. Paul references the riches of God’s goodness; there is nothing in the world that can even approach briefly the goodness of God. As believers, we are called to be like Him, but He is not a vengeful deity that tries to hurt us, that is the last thing God would do. Brother Swaggart says if we truly look at ourselves, we’ll be able to say, God has been good to us. God’s goodness, forbearance, and long-suffering should lead us to an attitude of humble repentance.
