Religious, but lost. Today on A Study In The Word, Evangelist Jimmy Swaggart and panel read Romans 7:11 discussing salvation in Jesus Christ and the sin nature that remains in the believer. When we say yes to Jesus Christ, as Savior and Lord, our sin has been forgiven, and the sin nature within us becomes dormant. Christ paid the penalty for our sin, and the forgiveness of sin is complete in Christ alone. But all too often, believers try to work out their salvation for sanctification, and move their faith from Christ alone, and the sin nature will rise up again. There are no good works or religious activities that will lead to the freedom of sin. God does not need our help. We must keep our faith anchored in Christ’s finished work alone; when we do, the Holy Spirit will work in our hearts and lives to bring about a victorious Christian life.
