The law was done away with 2,000 years ago, when Jesus Christ died on Calvary’s Cross. The believer cannot overcome the power of sin by his own willpower, which in some way finds man trying, by his own self-efforts, to get victory over sin. Today on A Study In the Word, Evangelist Jimmy Swaggart and panel read Romans 7:7 discussing man’s struggle with sin. The law does not cause man’s sinful condition, for the law is holy; it is a mirror to show us what we really are. We are to reckon ourselves to be dead indeed unto sin and alive unto Christ. Christ died for every person to have righteous living, which can be found only when our faith is anchored solely in the finished work of Christ.
