To try to live after a system of works and laws will only succeed in placing one in bondage. Today on A Study In The Word, Evangelist Jimmy Swaggart and panel read Romans 8:15 discussing how living by self-efforts and works will create a perpetual climate of fear in the heart of a believer. The Holy Spirit enables the child of God, to call God Father, which is done so because of Jesus Christ; this is the spirit of adoption, adoption means we are adopted into the family of God when we are born again. It is a tremendous privilege and honor, and it is not God’s will for a single person to be held captive to a spirit of bondage. There are millions, around the world, who love God, and they are not hypocrites, but they struggle against whatever bondage, i.e., drugs, alcohol, nicotine, jealousy, envy, malice, concupiscence, you can name all types of them, uncontrollable temper. Whatever the case, it is bondage.
