Today on A Study In The Word, Evangelist Jimmy Swaggart and panel discuss the coming of the Lord, the rapture of the church and the restoration of Israel. Nearly 2000 years ago, Israel was destroyed. Titus was the head of the Roman army, the mighty tenth legion. His father, Vespasian, had been the head of that army, but Caesar had been killed, and Vespasian was called to Rome to become Caesar. He placed his son Titus in charge of the siege of Jerusalem; and oddly enough, gave him instructions not to touch the temple, one of the most beautiful buildings in the world. Titus gave the instructions, but he did not have the loyalty of his army as did Vespasian, and the temple was destroyed. One billion one hundred thousand Jews were slaughtered in the conflict, and over a million were sold as slaves; the Jewish people were scattered all over the world.
