THE DEAD ARE FREE- Tonight at Crossfire, Pastor Paris Ragan preaches from Romans 6:2-7, looking at the righteousness of God that is contained within what Jesus Christ did at Calvary. We were given a righteous standard through the Law of Moses. Jesus not only fulfilled that, but He became a greater testimony of that righteousness. Jesus would say, “The Law says, ‘You shall not murder.’ I tell you that if you hate in your heart, you have already committed murder.” [Matthew 5:21-22] So He becomes an even higher Standard of righteousness. The Gospel of Jesus Christ is the New Covenant that holds us to a higher moral standard than the Old Covenant ever could. Pastor Ragan adds, not that the Old Covenant didn’t hold us to a high standard, it most certainly did, but it did not give us the power or the ability to deal with the things of the heart, and that’s what the New Covenant came to do.
