Today on Frances and Friends, Sister Swaggart and panel discuss divorce and what God’s Word says about it. Sexual immorality and abandonment are the two biblical reasons for divorce, and Dr. Dupree adds abuse to the list because it follows into the realm of abandonment. No one should stay in an environment where they are in harms way. When Jesus’ life was threatened several times before going to the Cross, He would walk away, and slip off if need be. God does not expect anyone to suffer physical and verbal abuse. God allows divorce, but He also gives us access to reconciliation. If the abuse is addressed and stops, forgiveness can bring reconciliation, and that honors God. The purpose of marriage is to bring forth children to replenish the world and thus bring salvation to the world. Divorce is not the unpardonable sin. God will forgive and pardon us when we repent of our sin.
