Today on Insight, John and Josh Rosenstern discuss the CHIPS Act that has passed through the Senate, which addresses the chip shortage and the premise behind it. It’s not law yet; but this bill is being introduced for debate and then there will be a vote to invoke moving it from initial debate to the floor for debate, which means it will likely pass the Senate and go on to pass in the House to the President’s desk. The bill totals 280-billion dollars, with 52-billion for the chip portion. There is great concern over what isn’t in the legislation over what is. The concern is competition with the U.S. and China; concern that there is not language in the bill to prohibit the U.S. from outsourcing their work and the building of these in China for economic reasons.
