Today on Insight, Josh Rosenstern shares the history behind the Jewish recognition of Tisha B’Av, an annual fast day in Judaism. Today is seen as one of the saddest days in history for the Jews, because many sorrowful times came to the Jews on this date; two of such, were when the first and the second temples were destroyed. The Babylonians under Nebuchadnezzar destroyed the first temple built by Solomon around 586 B.C. God’s people were removed from their homes and dispersed. Reading in Lamentations, God spoke through the prophet Jeremiah, pleading to the Jewish people to repent and come back to the Lord. God used the Babylonians to bring chastisement of His people, as Israel had forsaken the Sabbath, and judgement came. The Roman Army destroyed the second temple seventy years after Jesus Christ.
