Today on Insight, Josh Rosenstern discusses recent data evaluating U.S. students showing a decline in reading and math scores among elementary and middle school age students. Nine-year-old students taking a long-term trends test showed an average 7-point decline on math scores and a 5-point drop in reading scores. Brother Josh says the overall reading score decline was the largest drop in 40 years; and sadly, math scores fell the most over the last sixty years in every region of the country. Brother Josh says unfortunately scores were similarly down amongst tested 8th graders; we need to get students back up to speed following the negative effects from the pandemic shutdown. Brother Josh says statistics show that only 15-percent of taxpayer dollars that were distributed to U.S. schools as emergency pandemic relief, following the shutdown, have been used to get kids back on track.
