Today on Insight, John and Josh Rosenstern discuss a recent interview with Attorney General William Barr. Mr. Barr says there is not an epidemic in the United States that police are shooting unarmed black men. Brother John says there are many statistics to prove this statement to be true. However, many African Americans have experienced that when stopped by police they are treated more as a suspect rather than a citizen. Attorney General Barr says that even black officer do this, and he doesn’t believe it’s because of deep seeded racism, but because of stereotypes. Brother John that helps to explain it’s not necessarily systemic racism but more a stereotype. He says this stereotyping is wrong. Incorrect stereotyping is in the heart of many individual’s, and this is a wrong thought process. Brother John says Attorney General Barr says progress has been made; and he doesn’t believe we have systemic racism built into the core of America's systems. Brother Josh says stereotypes usually grossly misrepresent the groups they are formed about, and can lead to racism. Brother Josh says this is now resulting in a push for implicit bias training for police and companies who may be known for such stereotypes. He says bias means the stereotype leans to some type of action, showing a partiality toward or against someone that speaks to equality. The Rosenstern’s say this all shows a heart condition that only Jesus can answer.
