Today on Insight, John and Josh Rosenstern discuss the origins of Labor Day. The recognition of a Labor Day holiday began in the 1890’s as manufacturing in American was flourishing and ten to twelve hour workdays were common. Labor strikes were breaking out for better working hours and conditions. In Chicago, the Pullman Company’s labor strike spotlighted the conditions as its workers were being mistreated and layoffs were common. Brother John points out how disgruntled laborer’s issues brought about strategies that would fall under movements for the rise of Socialism, which is the road to Communism. True capitalism rewards hard work and promotes opportunity.
