Today on Insight, John and Josh Rosenstern explain Yom Kippur, the great Day of Atonement. This is the Sabbath of Sabbath for Jewish people. In the Old Covenant, this was the most holy day of the year, where the great high priest would go into the Holy of Holies for the sins of the people. He went in applying blood to the mercy seat to atone for his own sins, and then a second time for the sins of the people, of the nation of Israel. If the blood were not accepted, the high priest would be slain. But when the blood was accepted, the priest would walk out in his priestly garments, which consisted of a fringe of bells and pomegranates. The sound of the bells indicated the priest made it out, and the sacrifice was accepted and the people knew their sin was atoned for. All was a type and shadow of our slain Lamb of God who was crucified for all mankind. We have all we need in our slain Lamb of God, Jesus Christ.
