Today on Insight, Josh Rosenstern discusses student loan debt in the United States. He warns that if the current path continues, in five to ten years, the US will be in great trouble. On May fifth, those in default on their student loans will be notified. If you are more than 270 days with no payment, you are in default. Consequences will include, garnishing wages and a disruption of any federal funds going out. This also could greatly impact your credit score for years to come. Five million borrowers are currently in default on their student loans. If you are curious about your status, you can go to Studentaid.gov.
