WHAT IS YOUR MOTIVE FOR FASTING? Jesus said, “when” the believer fasts, not if the believer fasts; therefore, fasting is scriptural. Today at Family Worship Center, Pastor Gabriel Swaggart reads Matthew 6:16-18 teaching on fasting. Fasting must not be done for the sake of being seen by others, just as the Pharisees wrongly wanted recognition for their works of “holiness”. Some fast thinking they will earn something from God, or they wrongly think they will get victory over sin through fasting. Pastor Gabe says fasting must be done right, which means our sole motive for fasting is we want to know God more as we sense His presence and draw near in prayer and worship. Nothing is more important than our relationship with Christ, for as our faith stays anchored in Him, the Holy Spirit works on our behalf to change our heart’s desire to know Him in an even greater measure.
