The Lord is in the business of forgiveness. Today on The Message of The Cross, Evangelist Jimmy Swaggart and the panel discuss how man’s self righteousness is his greatest hindrance to not repenting of sin. The panel discusses the false teaching of penance in the church; man cannot earn forgiveness from God. God’s forgiveness is a free gift when we believe on the finished work of Christ. There is a consequence that comes with sin, as the Holy Spirit convicts us of our wrongdoing; however, we are not to condemn one another for sin. Faith in anything other than the Cross of Christ will destroy peace and unity in the church because it promotes self-righteousness. Our peace is in Christ alone, and our righteousness is made possible only by the Cross. We know Him in His death, burial, and resurrection.
