Where would Israel have been without the law? They were a unique people called by God. Today on The Message of the Cross, Evangelist Jimmy Swaggart and panel read Galatians 3:17 discussing the purpose of the law then and now. We need a revelation to understand this. The law was necessary to show the Israelites what they were and what they weren’t. Trying to keep the law will expose the sin nature. Under the New Covenant, Jesus Christ has fulfilled the law, and He supersedes it. When a person focuses on law and self-efforts, they are not focused on Christ and can arouse the sin nature within. The government under the law is through a power source of self and it will end in defeat. When our faith is in Christ and the Cross, this is the New Covenant’s process under a government of grace. This is where our power source is the Holy Spirit, and He will work on our behalf to lead us in a victorious Christian walk.
