Water baptism does not save a lost soul. Today on The Message of the Cross, Evangelist Jimmy Swaggart and the panel discuss salvation and how water baptism only shows forth that which has already taken place in a person's heart when they believe on Christ. Brother Swaggart says to claim water baptism saves is not biblical, and makes water baptism a work. The Apostle Paul spent a year and a half in Corinth teaching the young converts the power of the Cross that comes with the New Covenant. Jesus died to make salvation possible to the sinner who repents and receives Christ’s finished work. Colossians 2:6 says as we have received Christ Jesus so must we walk in Him; not in our self-efforts and righteous acts. Christ's finished work at Calvary is all that is needed to give believing man victory over sin.
