When the believer walks in the Spirit, he no longer has to serve sin. It is not by our works, but by our faith in Jesus Christ that we can find victory in this life. Today on The Message of the Cross, Evangelist Jimmy Swaggart and panel read Galatians 5:16 discussing how no believer can earn righteousness by what they do. The Apostle Paul’s teaching was contracting the works of the flesh versus the working of the Holy Spirit. We cannot earn our relationship with Christ; only by faith in His finished work can the Holy Spirit work on our behalf to keep us from fulfilling the lusts of the flesh. Our faith in Christ and His finished work equips us to travel through the presence of sin within, for at salvation we see the penalty of sin paid for and the power of sin broken; believing this, keeps the sin nature dormant in the Christian life.
