At salvation, the sin nature is made dormant. Today on A Study In The Word, Evangelist Jimmy Swaggart and panel read Romans 6:12; let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body that you should obey it. This scripture is clear that the sin nature can once again rule in the heart and life of the believer if the believer does not continually look to Christ and the Cross. The mortal body is neutral, which means it can be used for righteousness or unrighteousness. Ungodly lusts are carried out through the mortal body if faith is not maintained in the Cross. The panel reiterates that just as the sinner cannot save himself, the Christian cannot sanctify himself. Faith must be maintained in the finished work of Christ so the Holy Spirit can go to work on our behalf and change us into the image of Christ.
