There is an indwelling of the Spirit when one is first saved, but the Baptism of the Holy Spirit is a separate work. Today on Frances and Friends, Sister Swaggart and panel discuss the baptism of the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking with other tongues. Professor Don Paul Gray says reading from Romans 8:26, we see this prayer language that can be afforded to all believers. It edifies and strengthens the believer with an anointing they have never known. Brother Nations says there is a yielding of the tongue that needs to take place; that, many believers don’t want to do. Brother Smith says it is a gateway that allows the Holy Spirit to help us, and grow our faith to share the Gospel. It glorifies God. Our focus is to be on Christ, desiring more of Him, and not the tongues itself. A person can be saved and not have tongues; meaning, it is not a requirement for salvation. However, Sister Swaggart adds, everyone should seek it, as it offers a joy and opens up the door to everything.
