Today on Insight, Josh Rosenstern discusses charitable giving, and the process for applying as a 501c3 non-profit organization. He shares the rejection one Christian group from Texas ran into, as the Christian’s Engaged Organization had been seeking to become a non-profit, but was denied. The group works to promote Christians to pray, and lead, and guide, and motivate Christians to vote in an educated fashion. Brother Josh says the IRS rejected their request to become as a non-profit based on their conservative, “Republican” stances. The IRS rejection letter stated the organization should not have an opinion on issues to be a 501c3 tax-exempt organization. Brother Josh says this is not new, with regards to issues, referencing the Johnson Amendment; he says 501c3 organizations can deal with the issues, advising and educating is fine; they just cannot tell people who to vote for.
