God’s plan is predestined, but people are not. Today on Frances and Friends, Sister Swaggart and panel discuss Calvinism and Arminianism. French Theologian John Calvin, lived in the 1500’s, and is behind Calvinism, and its theology, which includes the belief that a person is preselected by God of whether they will or will not go to heaven. There are five points behind traditional Calvinism, called the TULIP. Brother Dupree explains that many people today don’t agree with all five of the points Calvin’s doctrine. Calvin, with a background in Catholicism, was trying to turn the oppressed Catholics back to the Word to help them grow in knowledge. The biggest disagreement to Calvin’s doctrine regards his teaching of a limited atonement. Arminianism teaches all people have a free will. We here at SBN, we believe, we have a free will to make heaven or hell our eternal home. The two theologies do have some agreement on the doctrine of God, authority of scripture, the Lordship of Jesus Christ, and they agree on the Trinity. Brother Shaun shares several Bible verses that clearly state we can walk away from our salvation; our faith is up to us. God knows who will reject Him, but He still sent His only Son to redeem ALL who would only believe; look and live.
