We are justified by our faith in Christ alone. Today on A Study In The Word, Evangelist Jimmy Swaggart and panel discuss Romans 4:1; what shall we say then, that Abraham our Father as pertaining to the flesh has found? The Old Testament teaches that God justifies the sinner on the faith principle, as opposed to the merit principle; the Holy Spirit now brings forward, Abraham. This is really the very reason that people reject the Cross; because there is no credit that goes for one’s faith in Christ and the Cross. Man likes the accolades of his fellow man. God won’t justify us on that basis; it’s on the basis of faith alone and not on anything pertaining to the flesh. When we think we are justified by our works, or sanctified by our works, we’re actually making God a debtor to us; saying if I do this, you owe me this, and God owes no man anything. Nothing in our hands we bring, only to the Cross we cling.
