Today on A Study In The Word, Evangelist Jimmy Swaggart and panel discuss Romans 2:22. You who say a man shall not commit adultery; do you commit adultery? You who abhor idols, do you commit sacrilege? Here the Holy Spirit, through Paul is placing Israel in the same state as the Gentile world. He wants to make sure that the church in Rome understood that to say one thing, and do another is unacceptable, whether a Gentile or a Jew. Paul goes on in verse 23, addressing those who make their boast of the law, through breaking the law. He tells them, you dishonor God even more than the Gentiles because the Gentiles didn’t have the light. The Jews in Israel were the only people in the world that had the light until Paul started preaching the gospel to the Gentiles; then the Gentiles began getting saved and giving their hearts to Christ.
