Today on A Study In The Word, Evangelist Jimmy Swaggart and panel discuss Daniel’s interpretation of the statue as seen in Nebuchadnezzar’s dream representing the kingdoms. The Medo-Persian Empire was represented by a breastplate of silver. The dream represents these kingdoms as God sees them, i.e., ferocious. Whatever looks great to man, doesn’t look as great to God, because God sees it for what it really is. The term, raised up itself on one side, simply means that the strength of the Persians ultimately was greater than the Medes. The three ribs in the mouth of it between the teeth refer to the bear devouring much flesh. It symbolized the conquest of Babylon, Lydia, and Egypt. These countries fell to the Medo-Persians, which would come at the very close. Then, they saw the handwriting on the wall; that was the final hour of the Babylonian Empire with the Medes and the Persians taking over. With years of many nations preceding Babylon, none surpassed Babylon for beauty and glory. They became more powerful than Babylon, but Babylon was the head of gold.
