Today on A Study In The Word, Evangelist Jimmy Swaggart and panel read Romans 6:2, discussing five ways the sin nature is addressed by people; through ignorance, denial, license, struggle and grace. When we understand the Cross of Christ, the sin nature is not to be a problem for us. The panel discusses Calvinism, Arminianism, and other teachings, as they explain the old man and the sin nature. When we are not taught correct doctrine, the sin nature can still affect the believer, as it can stir up the old man, i.e., what we are before salvation. The sin nature doesn’t leave at salvation, but becomes dormant. We can learn much and still miss how we are to live for God, as our previous thinking or teaching can prevent us from learning truth. The church needs to understand the sin nature and how the finished work of Christ alone addresses it in order to live a victorious Christian life.
