Anyone who represses the truth in unrighteousness will eventually be turned over to a reprobate mind. Today on A Study In The Word, Evangelist Jimmy Swaggart and panel discuss the sin nature. When we try to tackle sin in our lives by works, which stem from a power source of self, we will self-destruct. Our power source must be the Holy Spirit with our faith anchored in the Cross, this is the only way to have victory over sin. Too often church leaders discuss acts of sin and never teach on the root of it. Brother Swaggart says unless we understand the Cross of Christ to some extent, the sin nature will have its way in our lives. Man is born with a sinful character opposite of God, salvation doesn’t remove that nature, it unplugs it, making the sin nature dormant. The by-product of the sin nature is acts of sin, so they are tied together. If we don’t comprehend what Romans 6 says about indwelling sin, the power of it, and what Christ did for us, we will not know how to respond to it according to God’s prescribed order for living a victorious Christian life.
