HAVING A TEACHABLE SPIRIT- Tonight at Crossfire,Pastor Gabe preaches from Acts 18:24-28. He says next to laziness, the worst characteristic a Christian can have is an unteachable Spirit. He reminds us that we are to be lifelong learners. The Holy Spirit placed this narrative in the Book of Acts for us to see the importance of having a teachable Spirit. Here we see Apollos, an educated Jew, mighty in scripture, having a fervent Spirit and accurately taught the ways of God; but scripture says his knowledge stopped with the work of John the Baptist. He knew salvation and water baptism, but was limited to that. Two women of God, taught by Paul and knew the Gospel, saw that Apollos had limited knowledge. They shared with Apollos what they knew of the truth of the Gospel; Apollos listened and learned. Pastor Gabe says we all must be teachable; don’t let pride puff up in your heart. Aquila and Priscilla saw that Apollos did not know the Baptism of the Holy Spirit. Brother Gabe says without this knowledge Apollos would have been stunted in his Spiritual growth. If we reject the Baptism of the Holy Spirit, we are telling God, I don’t need you and your gift. If Jesus needed it, how much more do we? In 1 Corinthians 14:2-4, scripture tells us that our prayer language, when spoken, can be understood by God alone. Pastor Gabe encourages, having everything God has for us will only strengthen us and give a rest and refreshing we all need to do the will of God in our lives.
