Today at Family Worship Center, Pastor Loren Larson preaches from Judges 16:26-31. Often times, people’s faith is like a pendulum, swinging from law to the abuse of Christian liberty. Samson was declared a Nazirite before he was born. As believers, because we are born again, we are called to consecration like Samson. We are set apart for God. Israel had experienced the victories of God, but they would cry to God when their physical enemies came upon them. After a period of time, God would send a deliverer. He has mercy on us, but sin can attack again. Samson, by this time, had been delivered from several enemies, and yet the people chose to sit under the dominion of the Philistines. Samson let many of his vows to the Nazirite law slip away in disobedience, but he had consecration not to cut his hair; his faith was in that action not taken and not as it should be, to the holiness he was called to. We must separate ourselves from the world. It’s not faith in what we do, but it’s correct relationship with Christ, and then the Holy Spirit goes to work on our behalf. Brother Larson says too many in the church are trying to consecrate themselves without understanding the Cross and the Holy Spirit. God is long suffering, but don’t think that He approves of sin and our self efforts to achieve victory. We are married to Christ, not the law, and then the Holy Spirit leads us into proper Christian living. This is the value of the Cross.
