If we do not understand how to live for God, we will find ourselves worse than before we came to Christ. We can only experience a life of holiness when we anchor our faith in the finished work of Christ at Calvary and nothing else. This is where the Holy Spirit will work on our behalf to transform us into the image of Jesus Christ.
