Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel. Today on The Message of The Cross, Evangelist Jimmy Swaggart and the panel discuss the power of God and what takes place at salvation for the believer. When we are saved, we are baptized into the body of Jesus Christ. Brother Smith says this is a spiritual baptism at salvation not a physical baptism, as some believe; the panel discusses the false doctrine that is taught in many churches that a physical water baptism saves a person. It does not. Water baptism merely shows forth what has already taken place in the heart. At salvation, we are a new creation in Christ. Our will chooses what to believe, and will we accept that He is enough to change us into His image? As believers, we must know, we cannot change ourselves by our own willpower, but by His power alone.
