THE PRIESTHOOD OF ALL BELIEVERS- Tonight at Family Worship Center, Pastor Dave Watts reads Revelation 5:9-10 teaching on the priesthood that is supplied at salvation. All believers share in the priesthood of Christ; because we are in Christ, we can read, interpret, and apply the teachings of scripture. In the early church, the Catholic priest gave the mass in Latin, a language only the priests used and understood. But in 1382 John Wycliffe gave the 1st translation of the Bible in English. William Tyndale expanded the Bible translation more so the common man could read and understand it, but in 1523 he was strangled and burned at the stake by the Catholic Church. Brother Watts walks us through the historical contributions of Martin Luther and the Protestant Reformation, and John Wesley, evangelist and founder of the Methodist Church who made many contributions in the 1700’s. He pointed strongly to scripture, which will not contradict itself, for scripture interprets scripture. Christ is our final priestly mediator between man and God; because of the Cross, we are all equal. Pastors are gifts to the church, and we can learn from them; however, Jesus is our shepherd, and all preachers are under-shepherds. When we believe in the finished work of Christ on Calvary’s Cross, all believers fall under the authority of Jesus; it is here, we can go boldly before the throne of God for all that we need.
